Brief: Reusable mug/tumbler with an exterior temperature readout so you know drink heat without tasting. Not a smart app. Not medical device claims.
Done-when: You can order parts today and assemble or commission one prototype mug with a readable exterior temp.
BOM (existing catalogs):
- Blank stainless tumbler / mug — Amazon / restaurant supply (pick one SKU you like)
- External stick-on LCD thermometer strip (brew/aquarium strip) OR small digital probe panel — Amazon search “LCD thermometer strip cup” / “mini digital thermometer panel”
- Food-safe adhesive / mounting band — McMaster or Amazon
- Optional: sleeve / silicone grip to hold the readout
Build path: (1) Buy blank tumbler. (2) Buy exterior-readout strip or panel. (3) Mount below lip, away from lips. (4) Calibrate with hot water + kitchen thermometer. (5) If strip isn’t good enough, swap to a discrete digital panel module.
Prototype order step: Add blank tumbler + exterior LCD strip to cart on Amazon now; assemble tonight. For a “real product” next: Alibaba mug factory + custom print of scale, or a local laser shop for a clip-on housing.
